The ICCS is looking for passionate leaders to join our Board. As a board member, you’ll play a key role in guiding our mission and shaping the future of our organization.

We’re especially interested in recruiting an individual from the public sector with a financial designation (CPA, CFA, or CMA) to round out our Board’s expertise.

This is a volunteer position. Board members commit approximately three hours per month and may serve for a maximum of six years.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

This volunteer remote role as an Executive Board Member involves providing strategic direction, governance, and oversight for the ICCS. You will collaborate with other board members to establish organizational goals and ensure financial sustainability. The role also entails representing and championing the organization, fostering partnerships, and contributing to policy development to deliver improved government-citizen service experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Senior public sector employee with a financial designation (CPA, CFA, or CMA)
  • Knowledge of the federal/provincial/territorial/municipal service delivery and digital services ecosystem including the ICCS’ role within it
  • Knowledge of the Institute’s operations
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and decision-making skills
  • Experience in governance, organizational oversight, and policy development
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Knowledge of public administration, government service delivery and digital services, or nonprofit management is preferred
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the ICCS
  • Ability to provide unbiased opinions on all matters related to the operation of the Board and Institute
  • Ability to devote time to attend meetings and carry out role
  • Ability to understand complex issues and provide expertise

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Establish the strategic plan and develop annual goals and objectives

  • To understand and support the mission, vision, and value of the Institute and develop goals and objectives to support the strategic plan.

Allocate resources through the annual budget

  • To establish and approve the budget to ensure sufficient funding is available for the operation of the Institute.
  • Monitor the monthly operating budget to ensure appropriate spending.

Monitor progress of the Institute

  • Prepare for the meetings by reviewing the agenda and supporting documentation for the monthly meetings
  • Attend all Board meetings, when possible
  • Provide feedback on the work of the Institute, remaining up to date on issues and trends impacting the organization and its membership

Participate on a Board standing committee

  • Participate and provide input into the development of committee reports on various policies and procedures for the Institute

Promote the ICCS, whenever possible

  • Promote the ICCS to the member’s organization and to others

Fiduciary Responsibilities Board members must:

  • be faithful to the value, mission and mandate of the Institute, following the ICCS by-law in governing the organization
  • use good judgement when carrying out their responsibilities
  • carry out due diligence in decision-making in the operation of the Institute
  • act in the best interest of the organization and its membership
  • avoid conflict of interest in the discussion of the work of the Institute, identifying potential conflict of interest to the Board
